016.11 Previous to the years 1836-7 there Stood at this place a very large Cairn, it was demolished for 'road metal' during the above dates and at the centre was found level with the surface of the ground a Stone Cist containing black unchuous earth, but no bones or Urns. About the same time and near the South edge of the Cairn there was found a dried Clay Urn containing a quantity of small pieces of bones partly burnt. At about 60 feet east from the last named and about the same date there was found on the margin of a Kiln or Pit and [a] dried Clay Urn containing a quantity of partly burnt bones._ The Urns were of the same pattern, and from the description given by Mr Kerr, who was there [when] they were found, they resembled the Sketch given on margin. _ Both Urns were destroyed, but the base of the cairn can yet be traced on the ground. The Urns were made of very coarse clay, and were devoid of ornament. B, Render Corp. R.E. [Corporal Royal Engineers]
