016.08 About the year 1854 a cairn was demolished at this place, and at the bottom of the cairn nearly level with the surface of the ground , there was found a Stone Cist, measuring 3 feet by 2 feet, and covered with a large Slab 4 feet by 3 feet, all freestone,__ In the Cist three Urns were found , which mouldered away when exposed to the air. The Urns were composed of dried clay and contained ashes, and small portions of half burnt bones.__ On the South side of this hill there were at one time a large number of Small Cairns which were demolished for road metal, and at the bottom of each cairn there was found a dried clay Urn containing ashes.__ There is no mention of any Cists being found in the last named Cairns, and the Urns were either broken or mouldered away, as they appeared to have been only Sun dried.__ There is a tradition in the neighbourhood that this hill is the Site of a battle.__ [Signed] B.
