023.13 A Small Cottage on the Estate of The Burn, on the Side of the River North Esk, near Arnhall. Proprietor Col [Colonel] McInroy, The Burn. It is in good repair, and built into the South West corner is a Stone on which is cut, the double headed Spread Eagle, and dates 1668 and 1704. See "Arnhall" on adjoining Plan.
"These relics of the Southesk family Consist of a stone, built into the wall of a cottage at Chapelton bearing an erroneous Sculpture of the family arms, for the Spread Eagle instead of being Single is double headed. These initials and dates, which refer to the Second and fifth Earls are also upon it 'ANNO. 1668. E.I: E.I.S. 1704." (Land of the Lindsays Page 102.)
