The original part bears the date of 1666, and the initials of the name of John Earl of Middleton. (New Stat Act [Statistical Account]) An elegant Mansion the Seat of Sir John Stuart Forbes Bart [Baronet], it is in good repair and surrounded by pleasure grounds, Gardens and Plantations. Sir John States that part of the House is of far older date than that given above, but it is not known at what date it was built. - |
