Endowed School | Lady Burnett's School (Endowed) | Mr James Stewart Mr William Imray Revd [Reverend] George Hutchison |
005.12 | A schoolroom erected by Lady Burnett of Leys in 1838. Average number of pupils in attendance, 65. Teachers salary derived from the endowment and the school-fees. Originally the lands of the Hirn in this parish were mortified to build and support an hospital for old men and women, but finding there would be little necessity for such a building the funds were used to provide suitable teachers for the young. Latterly the Trustees of the mortification resigned their right to the Baronets of Leys, under the stipulation that a certain sum of money would be paid yearly to two teachers in the parish. Subject to this agreement the teacher of this school receives annually £18. |
