The literal meaning of this word is the "Field of Circles", or, the "Field of Stones." - but "Auquhorthies" is supposed to be corrupt orthography, and "Auchorthies" to be the proper Spelling - See Auchorthies in Fettereso Parish, - also the prefix "Auch" to Several places in Scotland - Viz "Auchinblae", Auchinleck, Auchtermuchty, Auchtertool etc - [initialled] B. R.
