039 | This name means "Grey McDonalds Strand", and is applied to a track of sand situated adjacent and to the west of Cladach Baleshare, and a short distance to the north west of Carinish. It was here where Young McLeod and two or three of his men were slain after having fled from Carinish where a battle was fought between the McLeods & McDonalds in A.D. 1601. The McLeods who fell here were buried on a knoll known ever since as "Cnoc Mhic Dhog'uill Glas". This knoll is situated adjacent and to the west of Oitir Mhic Dhon'uill Glas [ ... Dho'uill Ghalis]. No graves can now be traced on it and it has lately been poloughed over. The leader of the McLeods was buried in the Temple at Carinish. |
