012 | This name is applied to a slack situate 2 Miles West from Luskentyre in South Harris. Its great length is 4½ miles & breadth 2½ Miles. It is covered with good pasture for Cattle and sheep, the south end being superior to the north end. It is populated and there are 70 persons including men women & children living on it, but is farmed by one individual the others being merely cotters who make their living principly by fishing lobsters &c. There houses are of a most miserable discription. Some of them being half buried under the ground. It belongs to the parish of Harris & is the property of the Earl of Dunmore. |
