064 This is a post office and school under the one roof, and Kept by the same person, at Castlebay. The mails arrive from the post office at Loch na Ob by travelling postman, twice a week, and is due at 4. oclock P.M. at which time mails are despatched. It is subject to the P.O. at polachar South Uist, The school was established by the Ladies' Society at Edinburgh, by which Society it is chiefly supported, but the school is little patronized by the inhabitants, and the average is only about 20. It is the property of J. Gordon Esqr The house is thatched, one storey high, and in fair repair Boys & Girls are educated in the above school
