It is a very handsome edifice consisting of a centre block three storeys high and two wings two storeys respectively, It was opened in 1803 for the use of the Northern Counties of Scotland by voluntary Subscriptions and is "supported by parochial and individual contributions". Formerly a Lunatic Asylum was attached but for the last two or three years it has been used exclusively as an hospital. |
