046 A ruin Situated about ΒΌ Mile North of Muckrach House.It was erected by the Grants of Rothiemurchus in 1598. It is now in a Very Serious Condition Nothing Remains of it except the walls. The property of the Earl of Seafield. "The Old Castle of Muckerach in the North West end of the parish is rather a picturesque Ruin and beautifully Situated but it is now Much dilapidated; the roof has entirely fallen Away. Muckerach waS the first possession of the Grants of Rothiemurchus, The Castle was built by Patrick Grant, Second Son of John Grant of Fruechy, And 14th laird of Grant, And Margaret Stewart, daughter of the Earl of Atholl his Spouse in 1598.
