various The parish of Duthil and Rothiemurchus is in the Presbytery of Abernethy & Synod of Moray. These two places originally formed two separate and distinct parishes but in the year 1625 they were united for all purposes Civil and Ecclesiastical. But by Act of Parliament in the year 1824 Rothiemurchus was for Ecclesiastical purposes only, disunited from Duthil and formed into a Quoad Sacra Parish with a Government Church.
Duthil lies on the West side of the River Spey & Rothiemurchus on its eastern side. Formerly Duthil formed part of the Detached portion No. [Number] 2 of the County of Elgin & Rothiemurchus was wholly in the County of Inverness. But now the whole of the parish of Duthil and Rothiemurchus has been placed within the County of Inverness by the Inverness & Elgin Counties Boundary Act dated 1870. There are no detached portions of the Parish of Duthil & Rothiemurchus nor are there any detached portions of another parish situated within it.
