019 This name signifies "Ridge of Dispeace or of the fight, Quarrel or Broil" and is applied to a Heathy Ridge situated about a ΒΌ of a mile west of Loch Ashie, this ridge and the surrounding moor, is supposed to have been the scene of many engagements between Caterane, or in other words Cattle Stealers, and their pursuers, as this was the direct route to the south, it is also said to have been the place at which a battle was fought between the Danes and Fingal. The following Extract is from the Old Statistical Account "Tradition Reports, that Fingal, so much celebrated in Ossian's poems. here engaged in battle Ashie, the Son of the Norwegian King, and killed him, which gave the name of Drumashi, or Ashi's Hill, to the scene where this event happened. The inhabitants point out the chair where Fingal rested on the occasion". This chair will be described on another name sheet, no particulars can be obtained in the parish or neighbourhood , respecting Ashi, the son of the Norwegian King, but my authorities are of opinion that the name signifies "Ridge of Dispeace" and not as stated in Statistical Account.
