005 | This Castle was built by Lord Lovat in the year 1621 it is about four storeys high with small watch towers at the corners the walls are principally composed of freestone and the roof is composed of grey flags in lieu of slates It is situated on the Eastern side of Drummossie Muir and commands a very extensive view to the East West & North but us more limited towards the South According to the New Statistical Account it was bought by MacKintosh of MacKintosh about the year 1702 since which time it has been allowed to fall into decay but I believe it is going to be repaired by the present owner. This castle is roofed and is used by the farmer as a Granary and other purposes, but the interior is not in proper repair for a dwelling house. The farmers dwelling is joined to the Castle on the West. |
