041 | This road was made under the direction of General Wade, during the Military occupation of the Country, for the easier transport of Troops and provisions from one garrison to another, there are three roads branching from Fort Augustus, one leading to Fort George, by White Bridge, Foyers, Dores & through Inverness, and another in a southerly direction to Fort William also one to the west coast opposite Skye by Loch Clunie at the head of Glenmoriston; these roads are now kept in repair by the county, with the exception of the one from Fort Augustus to the West Coast. |
