It is an anglicised gaelic name.

041 This name is given to a small enclosure of a square form, which is situated on the top of a conical shaped hill, called Dùn Ghairdeil near Inverfarigaig. The walls were composed of small loose stones, and bear, in some parts evident marks of having been at one time subject to strong heat, as large vitreous lumps are to be seen at its highest, or or Southern corner It is on the property of Col [Colonel] Tytler of Auldourie Castle by Inverness.
