Captain Swinbourne RN [Royal Navy] 148;157 This name applies to an arm of the sea, running inland from the Sound of Eig, at Eilean Shona: for a distance of about 6 miles. At its entrance it is divided into the North and South Channels by Eilean Shona and also contains several small islands. It receives the River Shiel, at Dorlin, and the River Moidart at the upper end and is navigable for vessels of light draught only. There are 3 mansion houses in its vicinity viz Dorlin House, Eilean Shona House and Kinlochmoidart House.
