Rev. [Reverend] E. Ross, Manse Mr. J. Fraser, Brunside Cottage Rev. [Reverend] J. Allan, Campbelltown |
001 | This name applies to about five or six acres of a cultivated field at the junction of General Wades Military Road with the County Road from Inverness to Nairn via Campbelltown & half a mile S.E. of Campbelltown, in the beginning of last century there were fragments of the ruins of a large building here, which tradition reports to have belonged to the Knights Templars. Whether the building was a religious house or a fortalice is uncertain; probably the latter as there were traces of the fosse which surrounded it; all traces of the building and fosse all now removed and General Wades Military road is supposed to have gone through a corner of it. |
