The above reference to the missal
of the Blessed Marnock, with the
name of the Lands of Botmer-
nok, which appear to have forme-
ed the first endowment of the Chapel
make it probable that the patron
or tutelar Saint of the Chapel
was St Marnoch; and that this
was at that time the district
Chapel of the Barony of Pan-
mure, which continued, for a
long period, to be a Separate poss-
-ession from the Estate of Pan
bride, in which the Parish Church
was situated.
The patronage of the chapel, with
the tiends, the lands of Boath and
Cairncorthie, and the mill, are speci-
fied as part of the Panmure Estate
in Retours of the years 1662, 1671
and 1686.

Forwarded to me by
David Millar Esq
writer, Arbroath. He
states the above to be
extracts from the Cartularies
of Arbroath & Brechin.
