in the year 1733, which gift, with a great many others of various kinds, was recorded in letters of gold on the west wall of the Session House, where it was to be seen until the destruction of the Churches in 1841. After the forfeiture of Mr Reid, the Castle, with a large part of the estates, were purchased by James Yeaman, one of the bailies of Dundee, and not long ago Mr Graham of Kincaldrum purchased them from the representatives of Mr Yeaman's descendant. The bailie probably resided in the Castle during part of the year; but, after the erection of the present Mansion house, by one of his successors, the Castle as a residence was abandoned. Part of the barony of Auchinleck was sold about the beginning of last century. The purchaser, Mr Smith, gave the name of Smithfield to the property, by which name it is still known,
