J. C. Arbuthnott Esqr. Pror. [Proprietor]
Plan of Brechin Feus
026 A large mansion house, the property of and Occupied by J C Arbuthnot Esqr.
This is a very old property and referred to in the Perambulation in 1450 of the Marches of the Bishoprick of Brechin. The western part of the mansion house is old, but the Proprietor is ignorant of the date of its erection - a tablet with the date 1584 is built into the back wall, but it was taken from a detached circular tower with staircase, adjoining, when it was removed. Mr. Carnegy Arbuthnot thinks there are evidence of a moat having surrounded the house.
