049 [Situation] In the west end of the parish.
"The western part of the parish, called Clatto Moor, is of some note in history. In the progress of the Roman invasion, part of Agricola's army is understood to have encamped on this Moor, which station was subsequently occupied by the Scots under Sir William Wallace, previous to one of his sieges of Dundee; and while here it is said the meal which his army used was ground at the Mill of Fallaws. At a much later period, General Monk occupied the same castrum before his capture and occupation of Dundee in the year 1651. It was from this camp he sent a detachment of his army to Alyth, which surprised and took prisoners several of the nobility and clergy, among whom was the noted James Sharp, afterwards the notorious Archbishop of
