"The parishes of Navar and Lethnot, prior to the year 1723, were two separate charges: Before their union the parish of Lochlee & Lethnot were one charge. But as Lochlee is distant from Lethnot ten miles, & as the road was found always inconvenient, & often dangerous, especially in winter, it was judged proper by all concerned, about the year 1723, to disjoin Lochlee from Lethnot, to make the former a separate charge, and to annex Navar to the latter. Navar & Lethnot thus united are bounded on the North by the parish of Lochlee; on the North & East by the parish of Edzell: on the East by the parish of Stracathro; on the South East by the parish of Menmuir; on the South by the parishes of Fearn & Tannadice; and on the West by the parish of Cortachy & Clova"
Old Stat: [Statistical] Account.
The cultivated & inhabited part of the parish lies along the West Water & its tributary streams. The rest consists of Hills (which form part of the Grampian Range) and Moorland. The West Water runs through the parish

Though nothing now remains of this Circle but one very large upright stone, measuring 5 feet 4 inches high, 9 feet in circumference at the base, and 6 feet 3 inches at the top, yet its site is plainly traceable, and is slightly raised from the ground around it, It was an immense Cairn, 40 feet in diameter according to the farmer of Newbigging, containing 400 cartloads of stones which he removed, "There are the remains of two or three small Druidical temples. The foundation of this building is still traceable in its being raised about a foot above the ground, This Church was disused in 1723, when Lochlee was disjoined from Lethnot, and Lethnot was united to Navar, The Churchyard is still used, The belfry at the West end still stands about 20 feet high, It, however, formed no part of the Church, but was erected by the farmers in the district, so late as 1773, as a slab inscribed with their names, and on the belfry, informs us. |

A small circle, 30 links in diameter, supposed to be a Druidical remain, It is the most entire of any in the Parish, as, being situated in uncultivated ground, it has never been tampered with, It is slightly raised above the ground around it, and on it are a number of stones lying in all manner of positions; of those stones two are standing upright, and about 18 inches high,
"There are the remains of two or three small Druidical temples... one at Blairno"
New Stat. Acct. [Statistical Account]
This object is of the class, and is in fact a Cairn set round with small standing stones. The numerous stones laying near show that it has been opened in the centre, with the probable intention of rifling the contents; and the consequent depression in the middle gives it a ring-like appearance. |

A little South of the Manse is a spring well, of pure water, in former times dedicated to the Virgin, who was patron Saint of Lethnot, and bearing the name of St. Mary's Well
"During the incumbency of the late Mr. Symers, several votive offerings, consisting of pieces of silver money, were found in the fountain near the Church, which still bears the name of St. Mary's Well,"
Land of the Lindsays
The reign in which those pieces were coined, cannot be ascertained.
