New Stat: [Statistical] Account
040 An oat farm occupied by servants, belonging to the farm of Bandoch in Inverkeillor Ph. [Parish]. This as well as Bandoch is the Earl of Dalhousie's property. There is a large Dam on the Gighty for a victual mill in Newbigging.
By a "Victual Mill" (which is the common term used) it must be understood to be a Threshing Mill, the only difference being that it is driven by water instead of by horse power. These Mills are not shewn upon the Plans. A Dam for driving the Threshing, or Victual Mill, as it is called, may be seen at almost every Farm house except where the machinery is for horse power within those circular buildings attached to steadings.
