040 An enclosure of pasture ground on South Esk Estate adjoining the "Muirside of Kinnell" & situated close to the east of the Arbroath & Brechin Road where that Road enters the Parish from Kirkden Ph. [Parish]. About mid way in the field & on the side of the Toll Road there is a hillock which was originally, as stated by Mr Mather, of artificial construction, & in the New Statl. [Statistical] Account it is stated that Urns have been found at the Glesterlaw. No other authority (personal) has any knowledge of such being found except the Revd [Reverend] Mr Walker the Author of the N. Statl. [New Statistical] Account of the Ph. [Parish]. A Market for Cattle is held here four times a year. "Stance" is the customary name in this part of the county for the Market Place.
