025 The Shepherd's house of the Farm of Afflochie the property of Lady Maule. This house & its name are famous in the country from being occupied during the last century by a person who lead the men of Fearn against a Cateran Chieftain or Cattle Stealer, whom he defeated at the Water of Saughs in Lethnot Parish. Several Accounts of this, some under the title of "Ledenhendrie" & a Ballad of the "Raid of Fearn" &c. are, according to the writer of the Land of the Lindsays in the form of spelling adopted. Besides this the Author's extracts from the old Rental of Southesk, to which Ledenhendrie belonged in 1699, shews the name in the same form. There is also "Ledenhendrie's Chain" (Trace 4-26-1) From the numerous accounts of the "Raid of Saughs" the name appears to be well established in its original form, & the Estate Map should not therefore be adopted for the spelling given upon it.
