054 | [Situation] Extending from High Street to Westport A long narrow Street extending Westward from High Street to Westport. It is one of the oldest and principal thoroughfares in Dundee. The houses are from two to four storeys high and are mostly in good repair. It contains some very superior shops is paved and lighted with gas and kept tolerably clean. This street was anciently called "Argylesgaitt" and was the principal entrance to the Town, but on account of its narrowness, the greater part of the traffic is now by the Perth Road & Nethergate from the Western Suburbs of the Town. |
