039; 040; 045; 046 | [Situation] In the south eastern portion of Forfarshire A parish in Forfarshire extending in length about 4 miles and about 3 in breadth bounded on the north by Kirkden and part of Dunnichen parish on the east by inverkeillor Arbirlot and St. Vigeans on the south by Arbirlot Panbride & Monikie and on the west by Monikie Guthrie and Dunnichen. It is a hilly tract of Country in the range of the Sidlaws, but the hills are capable of cultivation to their summits. There are some moors and marshes. A part of Dilty Moss lies on the western skirts of this parish. There are large quarries of grey slate and pavement stones which have been wrought for centuries. Carmyllie was not originally the name of a parish but of a castle or stronghold which had long been the residence of the proprietors of certain lands in its neighbourhood. This parish is in the presbytery of Arbroath, Synod of Angus and Mearns. There are no detached portions of Carmyllie within or connected with any other parish or place nor are there any detached portions of any other parish within Carmyllie |
