This place has been pointed out by Mr. David Miller, Writer, as the site of The Chapel of St. Mary the Virgin, otherwise called the Chapel of Our Lady. He states that it was erected previous to the year 1457. It was a dependancy of the Abbey, and public worship was regularly performed in it for the inhabitants of Arbroath, to supply the want of accommodation in the then parish Church now St. Vigeans. The Chapel was supported by various portions of land about Arbroath. In 1505 Charles Brown Burgess of Arbroath gave numerous ground annuals about Arbroath for the foundation of an altar in this Chapel in honor of St Nicholas the confessor, and his grant was confirmed by Abbot George Hepburn on the 10th. March 1515.6. In 1519 Robert Scot Burgess of Arbroath gave various pieces of land about Arbroath for the foundation of an altar in this Chapel in honor of St. Dupthaeus or Dothak Bishop of Ross. The grant was confirmed by Abbot David Betoun on the 18th. of January 1524.
