so late as last summer he found 2 stone coffins 10 links from the south of the ruin (see sketch) one of the coffins was 6½ feet long containing an entire skeleton which was in no way distorted or sunk in in the coffin, this coffin is still preserved in the same place, and covered up with a few inches of earth.

037 St Maddens Well is situated 115 links west from the same ruin. Mr. Duncan pointed it out to me and altho [although] the well be filled up and defaced, the spring is still to be seen issuing into the mouth of a covered drain that was made some few years ago.

037 The Tumulus in the adjoining field east from St Maddens, Mr. Duncan says that there has been 7 or 8 Stone Coffins and an Urn found in it, and he believes a number more might be found if sought for, as the half of it is not yet excavated.
