Melgund Castle (&c.) continued | 033 | [continued from page 19] second field to the west of the Castle at the place marked one Stone Coffin was found, and in the field next the road parts of Stone Coffins (some entire) were found between the marks shewn on the Examination Trace. At Grief Hill (which see) stone coffins and human bones were found but there are no other places known now in the Parish, as far as could be learned, where stone coffins &c. were found, except at the "Moat of Melgund", which however appears not to be certain to those who have spoken of the Moat, they having but heard of Coffins being found there without any reliable information of their authority for such. |
