Parish of Sconie Plan 25 A Trace 7. 36 [page no.]From the nearness of this stone to the tumulus which stood near the east side of Balgrumma there seems good reason to think that a battle was fought here. Leighton in his history of Fife vol.[volume] 3, page 175 says, "There seems little reason to doubt that a battle had been fought here and that the remains of those who fell had been interred in the tumulus". - The New Stat. Acct. [Statistical Account} page 268 also speaks of the great quantity of human remains found in this neighbourhood which would lead to the supposition of a battle being fought in this district.
