Note: "The tower of the present church is of great antiquity, though certainly not by any means
of that age which has been Attributed to it, that of the 9th or 10 century; though we should
be inclined to assign it to the 14th or 15th Century. The Church was partly rebuilt
and enlarged in 1806." Full. [Fullertons] Gazeteer.

Note: "The Church of Markinch is a very ancient place of religious worship. It was given by Maldiunus
Bishop of St. Andrews, to the Culdees in the 10th century. Towards the end of the 12th century it was modified to the
Priory of St. Andrews, by Eugenius the son of Hugo, a second son of Gillinsiche. Mr. Duff, the 4th Earl of Fife, which
deed was confirmed by a charter of King William. From this Eugenius the family of the Earl of Wemyss
is supposed to have sprung." Old Stat. Acct. [Statistical Account]

Note: "Markinch, a village (with a Parish church, of old one of the Priors of St. Andrews) belonging to
the Earl of Leven. In a charter by King William to the Priory of St. Andrews, he confirms a Donation
of the Kirk of Markinch to them by Eugenius filius Hugonis filii Gillemichel Comilis de Fyfe. Sibbalds History
