023 | [situation] ½ Mile N. [North] of the town of Leslie. A long low ridge extending East and West a little to the North of Leslie Village, along the top & on the East end are several Small irregular features. The New Stat. Acct. [Statistical Account] says. "The Romans encamped on Balsillie Heights at the back of Leslie where the mounds raised by the Romans are called the Balsillie Laws" I have made careful inquiry on this subject and could get no information of the Romans having encamped on these heights beyond that already quoted from the New Stat. Acct [Statistical Account] No one knows of any remains having been found, the place is known by the name of Balsillie Laws, not Balsillie Heights and the mounds referred to seem to be natural, they are certainly too large, and too irregularly shaped to have been Tumuli.
