In front there is a fine avenue of Forest Trees leading to the principle gate which is near the centre of the Town. "for the residence of the Duke of York, and, it is said, from the fines levied on the Covenanters. It
"is now the property of Graham Montgomery; but is not inhabited."
The old house for many generations the residence of the Earls of Morton, was taken down in 1723"
