A small cascade on the River Devon, abt. [about] 1/5 of a mile N.E. [Northeast] of Rumbling Bridge. The water falls abt. [about] 20 ft. [feet] out of a large basin or Cauldron, against the sides of the rock & loose stones below causing a noise not unlike the clapper of a flour mill - some have attributed the cause to the Devil hence the name Devils Mill [Note] see page 25.
