026 [situation] In the S. [South] West corner of the Parish of Elie.
A village being a Burgh of Barony situated along the sea coast and connected with that of Earlsferry The houses are one and two storeys high in good repair, and are chiefly occupied by Fishermen. It has the parish church and school, a Post Office a few grocers shops an Inn and 4 public houses. A coach from St. Andrews to Largo passes daily thro' Elie during the Summer and two regular packets sail weekly to Leith exporting Agricultural produce and importing articles of merchandise &c. The rights of this burgh is almost fallen into desuetude and the boundary Cannot be pointed out nor is it Known that it was ever properly defined. Note. The correspondence relating to this burgh + its boundary will be forwarded to the O.M.O. [Ordnance Map Office] in due times-
