039 | [situation] In High Street. A low Substantial Stone building adjoining the Church where most of the Tradesmens children receives their education. The School is supported partly by heritors & partly by the Parents of the pupils - The heritors have the right of choosing the Master. The Borough Magistrates represent 1/3 of the heritors. The Stipend is 34£.4.3. The pupils pay also to the Master from 3 to 10/- [3 to 10 shillings] per quarter. Drawing & French are extras - Reading, Writing, Grammar, Geography, Arithmetic, Latin & Practical Mathematics are generally taught at this School at present there are 30 Girls & 40 Boys in the School |
