039 | [situation] about 1/8 of a mile NE [North East] of St. Margarets Stone (Farm). A large detached block of freestone, about 8 feet in length and 4 in height, on the west side of the public road from Queens Ferry to Dunfermlin Tradition says, that Margaret, afterwards Queen of Malcolm, when proceeding from North Ferry to Dunfermline, being fatigued, rested about half way, and leaned on this stone, where it has been honored by the designation of St. Margarets stone. |

There is a small house of 4 rooms in this village. for 4 widows, who are allowed six bolls of meal yearly. furnished by the proprietor or proprietors of the Pitreavie Estate. it was instituted 1675. by Sir Henry Wardlaw of Pitreavie. it is styled Pitreavie's Hospital in Chalmers His [History] of Dunfl. [Dunfermline] but is not known as such in the village |
