This school was built to afford accommodation for about 100 scholars, the average number of scholars is about 20, the branches taught are English, Latin, Navigation and Arithmetic. David Tennent is the present schoolmaster, his salary is the maximum allowed by government and what he gets by school fees. The poet "Tennant" was schoolmaster of this parish for a long time, who gave it up to his brother the present schoolmaster, and became Professor of Oriental Languages in the College of St. Andrews. |
