A plain rectangular building on the east Side of the Village of strathkinness kept as a Preaching Station for the accommodation of that part of the inhabitants who are members of the established church There is in it about 250 sittings and is attended by an average number of 200 The officiating minister is one from the Ph [Parish] Church of St. Andrews who attend there regularly each Sabbath, There is also a school Kept in it on week days when the children of both sexes are taught the ordinary branches of an English education the average number of pupils attending are 70, The master (Mr. Peattie) derives his salary from a portion of land given as an endowment to a school in strathkinness, by one of the Melvilles of Mountmelville at some former period together with school fees from the pupils It is therefore a School & Preaching Station. |

A small Village three miles West of St. Andrews and North of the Road leading from the latter place to Cupar. It is of a very irregular form the houses being greatly detached from each other. There are two laces of worship in the Village one, and extensive chapel, or chapel of ease for those attending the Parish Church of St. Andrews, and the other a Free Church. There are also two schools which are in Connection with the above mentioned places of worship. The trade or occupation of the inhabitants is that of handloom weaving which is carried on to a considerable extent and which is done chiefly by females. The males for the most part being nearly all outdoor labourers |
