012 [situation] Western portion of the parish of St. Andrews.
A small Village three miles West of St. Andrews and North of the Road leading from the latter place to Cupar. It is of a very irregular form the houses being greatly detached from each other. There are two laces of worship in the Village one, and extensive chapel, or chapel of ease for those attending the Parish Church of St. Andrews, and the other a Free Church. There are also two schools which are in Connection with the above mentioned places of worship. The trade or occupation of the inhabitants is that of handloom weaving which is carried on to a considerable extent and which is done chiefly by females. The males for the most part being nearly all outdoor labourers
