011 | [situation] About 3/4 of a Mile S.W. [South West] from Wemyss Hall. A square tower about fifty two high with a balcony and parapet wall with loopholes or arrow slits A flat rising above this wall with sloping roof has been added by a former proprietor whose arms & initials with the date 1627 are above the doorway and fireplace of this addition. The tower is occupied as a dwelling house it is 4 stories including the top flat or story. It is at present occupied by the forester employed by the proprietor. In one of the apartments is kept a small museum of curiosities belonging to the family of the proprietor. The walls of the tower are 6 feet thick and the windows are 27 inches high and 18 inches wide. A circular stair case leads to the top giving access to each storey. |
