009 [situation] About 11 chains W.S.W. [West South West] of the Parish Church of Auchtermuchty.
A large plain old dwelling house situated in the Town of Auchtermuchty it is a plain unornamented stone building in middling good repair and is three storys high and divided into two seperate dwellings occupied by weavers and is the property of Findal Bruce Esq. of Falkland House. On stone at the top of one of its corners is the date 1629, Supposed to be the date of its erection, on another stone on an archway springing out of its opposite corner is the date 169. It is locally supposed to have been built and occupied by ne of the Macduffs - a descendant of the Graet Macduff Maormor of Fife and the Successful oponent of Macbeth, but this supposition is only mere conjecture as there is no proof of its accuracy.
