009; 010 | [situation] At the E. [East] side of Lindores village. The site of a Loch on the estates of "Lindores" and "Inchrye" it is a small piece of ground of arable surface and nearly of an oval shape. it is a currant local tradition that it was formerly a deep loch and that an artificial canal or cut connected it with Bowstard Loch. and Lindores Loch both these last named being connected in a similar manner with the Dog Loch. thus forming an irregular circle of Fortification around Macduffs Castle. the site of which is shown. it could only be approached by a Draw Bridge the site of which cannot now be pointed out - nor is there any trace of the Fosse or Canal which formed with the above "Lochs" [remainder deleted] |
