A large river its source is in the parish of Strathmiglo, it runs from that in a north easterly direction till it joins the St. Andrews Bay. It forms the boundary between the parishes of St. Andrews and Leuchars, and is navigable at spring tides as far up as the Guard Bridge, and admits vessels of 70 or 80 tons burden. There is very little traffic on it since the construction of the St. Andrews branch of railway which passes close by Guard Bridge. Near the mouth of the Eden there are large muscle beds of immense value, which are let to tenants by the proprietors every five years. They afford bait to the most of the fishermen along the Eastern coast of Scotland.
