An extensive tract of Country sloping down to the Tay, which in former times was Covered with wood but now Cultivated it is stated by Sibbald and other historians that it was on this ground that Wallace fought the Battle of Black Earnside in the year 1300, when he gained a victory over the English by Killing 3000 of them and taKing 300 prisoners.
