016 | [situation] 1 1/4 miles N. by W. [North by West] of Glendale farm house. In writing of other cairns etc. in the neigbourhood, Colonel Miller thus notices this one. "Another Cairn stood opposite to this at 1 on the south side of the river, one hundred yards in circumference, but I have not been able to find that any thing was discovered in it when it was removed" Mr. R. Kay, Smith, Heatherwick remembers seeing it standing & told me that some large flat stones resembling stone coffins were found in the centre but he did not remember of any bones being got" Copied from the Examiners Record. There is a slight discolouration in the Grass within the circle shew on Trace which sufficiently indicates its site. |
