A Substantial Stone building two Stories high with gardens and ornamental ground the property of the Trustees of the late Mr Philps at present occupied by Miss Patten this house was formerly in the Castellated Style of Architecture & belonged to the Douglas family there is a fine old tree immediately South of the house. The house and part of the ground adjoining is supposed by Doctor Small to have been a Roman encampment but cannot be Authenticated in this locality
