[Kellie Castle] (continued)..modern additions. This castle with a barony which had been previously the property of a family named Oliphant belonged in the reign of James VI to sir Thomas Erskine of Gogar the brother to the Earl of Mar he was afterwards Viscount Fenton and Earl of Kellie. In 1797 the Castle and estate went to the Erskines of Cambo and the Castle appears to have been the family seat. It is described by Sibbald as a good old house, and in the Old Stat. Acct. [Statistical Account] it is said "The Castle of Kellie where his Lordship resides is a very large and strong building with stately apartments which the present Earl has lately fitted up in a most elegant manner and laid out the pleasure ground about the place wit great taste". Vol 13 p27.-

This castle was used untill lately as a farm house when a new farm house was built near it. At present the windows are broken and the roof & walls are much dilapidated.
